Hello Tom Baines Families,
We have had an eventful and fun past two weeks. The Grade 9 Quebec and Disney trips were completely successful with the students and staff having a great time. I was able to go to Disneyland and we received nothing but compliments about how respectful, kind and polite our students are. We know this is because of you and we want to say thank you for raising such amazing kids. Last night we also had our Spring Fling Dance and it was a hit! It’s wonderful to see our kids come out of their shells and party it up with each other. Thank you so much to Ms. Adshade and her leadership class for organizing this. We hope to have many more in the future. We also wrapped up our djembe drumming with our Grade 6 students. Thank you to Ms. Lin for taking this on. Two more months of the school year to go with many more exciting things happening.
Our school council also put on a parent evening on April 18 around Teens and Anxiety. It was well attended and discussed very important things we can do to help teens who struggle with anxiety. Here is a link for further information and strategies. We encourage all parents to watch. video3061265146.mp4

Important Dates:
May 1-2 – Grade 8 students attend River Watch
May 2 – Sneak a Peak Open House from 6:00 – 7:30 pm. This is for new families attending Tom Baines next year
May 7 – Lockdown practice
May 13 – Grade 9 Part A ELA PAT
Next Year – reminder to contact the office if your child will not be attending Tom Baines next year. We are once again capped and need to know our final numbers before overflowing students to Arbour Lake. If you move out of the area, you will be expected to change schools also.
Attendance – our lates continue to increase, both in the AM and PM. Remember that students who go off campus and come back late will automatically lose off campus privileges. Students need to be in their seats at 8:45 am, which means they need to arrive to school by 8:40 am.
Fees – all outstanding fees need to be paid by May 30. Please check your power school to see any unpaid fees.
Provincial Achievement Tests – these are quickly approaching. The government has cancelled Grade 6 ELA and Math PATs. Grade 6 will still write Science and Social. The majority of exams are in mid-June and more info will be coming out about this. Grade 9 students have their first PAT on May 13.
Parking Lot – reminder that the drop off area is a one way. It needs to be entered on the south side of the parking lot.
Thank you so much for all of your support that you continue to offer. Tom Baines truly is a part of the community and a great place to be.
