Hello Tom Baines Families,
We hope you all enjoyed your Family Day weekend. We are very grateful that the cold snap seems to be over and better weather is ahead.
Please see below for important information.
Important Dates:
February 24 – School Council Meeting – online at 7:00 pm
February 25 – Grade 8 OE Ski Trip
February 26 – Pink Shirt Day – Anti-bullying Day
February 28 – Professional Learning Day – No school for students
CUPE Strike – most of you have heard about the upcoming work strike for members of the CUPE. This includes all of our cleaning staff. This strike will have implications on our school structure and what we can offer. There will be no cleaning staff throughout the day so staff and students will need to be extra careful and clean up any messes they make. As for extra-curricular activities, a few things of note:
· All students with no extra-curricular activities need to be out of the building by 4:00. If you drive your child home from school you need to make sure that you are on time.
· Students involved in an extra-curricular can be in the school under the direct supervision of a teacher and they can not wander the school. These activities need to be done by 5:00 and parents need to pick up their child on time.
· The only exception is Volleyball games – these must end by 6:00 pm (there may be a few exceptions) and they’ll be under the supervision of the coach. No student spectators are allowed at these games.
School Council – these meetings will need to move online during the strike. Our next meeting is Monday, February 24 at 7:00 pm and will be on Teams using this link. Join the meeting now. Mr. Siakaluk will have a presentation on the School Development Plan and School Fees.
AEA Survey – each year parents of Grade 7 students are asked to complete a survey. Please see the attachment that was emailed out for more information.
Lockdown – we had a very successful lockdown drill on February 20. CPS said it was one of the best they have ever seen. The students were quiet and respectful during the drill and are aware of what to do in case of an emergency.
Parking Lot – proper use of the parking continues to be a significant problem. The only thing that appears to work is to have Calgary Police or an administrator present after school to monitor parking. This is not always possible, so we need parents to ensure that they are following the expectations regarding parking after school. Parents are asked to not enter the main staff parking lot. Parents are also asked not to back into the area by the garbage bins as this is a no parking zone. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
More information will be coming about the upcoming CUPE strike and what this means for staff and students. Thank you for your continued support. We are part of a great community.
