Provincial Achievement Tests – dates of these tests are above. Grade 9 students are writing their exams in the morning. Grades 6, 7 and 8 students write exams in the afternoon. Grade 9 students can go home after their exam if parents sign the permission form that has gone out.
Library and Cafeteria – all library books are due by June 6. Please bring them to Ms. Anderson. The last day for our cafeteria is June 19. It will be closed for cleaning the week of June 23 so students will need to bring their own food that week.
Student Dress Code – we have made some changes to the dress code over the past few years, but as the weather gets hotter, we do experience more concerns with student dress. Below are the expectations at Tom Baines School.
· No hats that do or can cover ears. Regular hats/caps are fine. No toques or bandanas.
· Nothing with images that displays profanity, prejudice, stereotypes, phobias or is offensive.
· No clothing/dress that reveals underwear, buttocks or full bellies. No tube tops or low pants.
If students do not follow the dress code, they will be asked to change into clothing we have at the school or contact home for someone to bring something more appropriate. Thank you for your support with this.
Bike and Pedestrian Safety – unfortunately we have had several complaints from neighbors about students being unsafe while walking and riding their bikes to and from school. They often cross without stopping, look at their phones or move very slowly when crossing a street. We have also observed many students not wearing helmets when riding their bikes. Please take some time to discuss safety with your children. We will regularly remind them about safety expectations.
School Council – thank you to everyone who attended our last school council meeting. The first meeting of the 2025 – 2026 school year will be on Monday, September 15 at 7:00 pm in our Learning Commons. This will be our AGM and we will fill any vacant positions. Please mark your calendar. We look forward to seeing you there.
We look forward to the last few weeks of school and the many events to come.
Thank you,
Derek Siakaluk, Principal
Chelsea O’Leary, Assistant Principal
