Hello Tom Baines Families,

Please read important information below:

September 29 - Non-instructional Day - No school for students

September 30 - National Day for Truth and Reconciliation - No school for students

School Council - thank you to the families who joined us for our school council on Monday. All positions have been filled and we are so grateful for our parents volunteering to help our amazing school. Our next meeting is on Monday, October 27 at 7:00 pm in our Learning Commons. Please plan to attend.

Traffic and Pedestrian Safety - an email was sent to all parents with a safety attachment. Please take some time to review this.

Fees - we are finalizing fees and they should be ready by the end of the month. A separate email will go out when fees are able to be paid.

Student Belonging and Well-being - we are continuing to focus on developing and strengthening our students' feeling of belonging at school. This is a team effort and we appreciate the support from families. Unfortunately, we do occasionally have instances of bullying and negative behavior between students. We always take these situations seriously and work alongside parents to solve these issues. There is no tolerance for bullying, and these actions will have consequences, including possible suspensions. Admin will always clearly communicate with parents if these events occur. We also ask that you monitor your child's use of social media as many of these bullying instances occur online outside of school hours.

Athletics - Cross-country, basketball and soccer are underway. Thank you to the amazing staff who dedicate their time to working with these amazing athletes. Coaches will always clearly communicate schedules with students and families. Go Boas!!

Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation - each year we acknowledge and support the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's Calls to Action. This year we are focusing on creating an indigenized learning space for all students, and building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy and mutual respect. Staff will participate in professional learning to create in-class tasks that focus on this important work. We are excited to see the great learning that will take place!

As you can see, Tom Baines is a very busy place. Thank you for your continued support and care for our staff and students. We couldn't do it without you and we are so grateful to be a part of this amazing community.
