Hello Tom Baines Families,
We’ve had a great first week back and students are settling nicely into their homerooms and complementary courses. We look forward to the great things that will happen this year. Please read below for important information.
Important Dates:
September 12 – Fire Drill @ 11:15 am
September 15 – School Council AGM meeting at 7:00 pm in our Learning Commons
September 17 – Picture Day
September 18 – Meet the Teacher from 6:00 – 7:30 pm – see website for more details. A separate email will be sent out with more information.
School Council – please mark your calendars to attend our first school council meeting on Monday, September 15 at 7:00 pm. We will meet in person in the Learning Commons. All parents/guardians are invited and encouraged to attend. We are looking at filling many different positions and it’s a wonderful way to be involved in the school. We’ll see you there!
Athletics – Basketball, Soccer and Cross Country are tryouts are beginning this week and next week. The schedule is posted on d2l, given to students during morning announcements and is posted outside of our gym. We are excited for athletics to begin. Go Boas!
Parking – you may have noticed that we have some no parking zones outside of our school. Student drop-off and pick-up can get very busy and we encourage students to walk when they can or to walk a few blocks and have you pick them up away from the school. Parents are not permitted to enter the staff parking lot or park near the dumpsters. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
Technology – much of the work your child does at school will be on a computer. We have great technology at the school, but not enough for all students. When possible, we ask all families to provide a laptop for their child to bring and work on at school. A simple chrome book is sufficient for what they need to do and they are relatively inexpensive. If possible, please have your child bring their own laptop to school. No work will be done on phones or tablets.
Attendance – our school hours are 8:50 – 3:30 Monday-Thursday and 8:50 – 1:10 on Fridays. Doors open at 8:35. Please have your child here around 8:35 so they are not late for class. Students who regularly miss or are late for class will be asked to make up the time over the lunch hour. Please email the school at tombaines@cbe.ab.ca to report any absences or lates.
Cell Phones – these expectations are the same as last year. Phones and ear buds are not permitted to be in the classroom and all students are expected to leave their phones in their lockers. If a cell phone becomes an issue, staff will have the student bring it to the office and families will be contacted.
Dress Code – we ask that all students be dressed appropriately and ready for learning. Hats are permitted, but nothing that covers the ears as students can sometimes hide ear buds. Clothing should not show buttocks, underwear or full bellies and sayings on clothing should be respectful and polite. If there are any concerns, admin will speak with the student and if needed, reach out to the family for support.
Cafeteria – our cafeteria is open from Monay – Thursday and is cash only. It is closed on Fridays. Students are asked to bring their own snacks on Fridays as the break is very short and there are no snacks provided by the school.
Fees – we are in the process of establishing the fees for complementary courses. Once all fees are complete they will be posted on your MyCBEAccount and we will communicate with the families when they can begin paying.
Students are reviewing school expectations in their homerooms with their teachers. Please ask them for any updates or information as they come.
