Attendance
Now that school is in full swing, we wish to highlight the importance of daily attendance for student success. Being present at school provides valuable opportunities for learning, connection and participation in the school community. Students are expected to attend regularly and punctually. When students miss 10% or more of instructional time, approximately two or more days a month, it can become challenging for students to fully participate in classroom learning and school activities.
We recognize that various circumstances can affect a student’s attendance and we are committed to approaching these situations with understanding and support. Our school is available to collaborate with families to identify concerns, explore possible strategies, and share information about supports and resources when needed.
If your child will not be in attendance at school, we request that you email the school at tombaines@cbe.ab.ca to report their absence. If your child is having ongoing challenges coming to school, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
IPP Reminder
Individualized Program Plans (IPPs) should be coming home today with students who are coded and have an IPP.
These plans are working documents and may evolve throughout the year based on student needs and progress. We encourage families to review the plan and connect with their child’s homeroom teacher with any questions, concerns, or feedback.
Thank you for your partnership in supporting your child’s learning.
Modular Classroom Update
Earlier this week the CBE shared the System Student Accommodation Plan communicating that Grade 6s will remain at Edgemont School and Tom Baines will become a grade 7-9 school beginning in 2027-28. The modular classroom (the "Chalet") at Tom Baines School has reached its life expectancy, and while it remains safe for use, it will be planned for removal in the future. Together, the grade configuration change and modular classroom removal will support a balanced enrolment for the school.

Recurring Messages
Jacket Racket | Message from Student Council
Tom Baines has been a proud supporter of the Jacket Racket program for MANY years. We collect clean, gently used winter coats, snow pants, toques, mittens, and snow boots. The collected items are then donated to the Jacket Racket team and they, in turn, ensure that the clothing is given to kids, in Calgary, that need them.
Please look through your closets and see if you have any extra winter items that you no longer need that you are willing to part with. Your contribution will be put to good use.
Donations are being collected until Oct. 22.
Items are to be brought to center court. Place the items in the black garbage bags on tables.
Thank you in advance for your support.
Message from TB Parent Council | Co-Treasurer Needed!
Hello Parents of Tom Baines,
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our first Parent Council meeting this past Monday!
We are happy to share that most of our Parent Council positions have now been filled, thanks to the wonderful parent volunteers who have stepped up to support our school community.
We are currently looking for a Co-Treasurer to work alongside Peggy, our current Treasurer.
The Treasurer role is an important part of the Parent Council. This position helps ensure that our funds are managed responsibly and that our budget is spent wisely on the areas that are most beneficial to our school and our children.
Every member of the Parent Council plays an important role, and we truly appreciate all of the time, ideas, and support our parent volunteers provide. Without everyone's help, we would not be able to have a successful school year!
Co-Treasurer Responsibilities:
- Keep and maintain all financial records
- Verify deposits and payments
- Write cheques and process invoices for payment
- Review the annual budget
- Present the monthly financial position at Parent Council meetings
If you think you would be a good fit for this position, or know someone who may be interested, please reach out to us at TBS.event.biz@gmail.com.
Thank you again to all of our amazing parent volunteers for helping make Tom Baines a great school community!
