CBE Student Survey
Each year, Calgary Board of Education (CBE) students are invited to participate in surveys that gather feedback about their learning experiences, well-being, engagement, and school environment. Survey results help schools and the CBE evaluate programs, inform planning, and identify opportunities to better support student success and well-being.
The CBE Student Survey is an anonymous, voluntary online perception survey administered twice during the school year. A shorter set of questions is administered in the fall, while the spring survey contains the full complement of questions.
Survey Administration Date(s): November 2 - November 6

Athletic Updates
It was an exciting week for Tom Baines Athletics as three of our basketball teams hosted home games. We are incredibly proud of the effort, determination, and teamwork displayed by all of our athletes. Each team competed hard from start to finish, demonstrating resilience and a commitment to improving every time they step on the court.
Beyond the results, we have been especially impressed by the outstanding sportsmanship shown by our Tom Baines players and fans. Our athletes represented our school with respect and integrity, while our spectators created a positive and encouraging atmosphere for both teams. Thank you to our coaches, players, families, and supporters for helping make Tom Baines athletics a source of pride in our school community. Go Boas!
School Council
We invite all parents and guardians to join us for our next School Council meeting on Monday at 7:00 p.m. in the Learning Commons. School Council provides an excellent opportunity to learn about what's happening at Tom Baines, share your perspectives, and connect with other members of our school community.
We look forward to seeing you there and appreciate your ongoing support and involvement in our school.
Costume Day - October 28
Students are invited to participate in Costume Day on October 28! We look forward to seeing the creativity and school spirit our students bring to the day.
To help ensure a safe, inclusive, and positive experience for everyone, we ask that costumes follow these expectations:
- Costumes must be appropriate for a school setting and suitable for all ages.
- Costumes should not include weapons or replicas of weapons of any kind.
- Masks that completely cover the face are prohibited so that students can be easily identified.
- Costumes should not promote violence, illegal activities, or inappropriate language or imagery.
- Costumes should respect all cultures, religions, identities, and lived experiences. Costumes that stereotype or mock individuals or groups are not permitted.
- Students should be able to participate safely and comfortably in their learning throughout the day – blow up costumes should be saved for Halloween please!
We encourage students to have fun, be creative, and help make Costume Day a positive celebration for everyone in our Tom Baines community!

Being on Time Matters
Arriving on time helps students begin the day feeling settled, connected, and ready to learn. We encourage students to aim to arrive at 8:40 a.m. for soft entry, giving them time to get organized and be ready when classes begin. Even arriving a couple of minutes late can mean missing important instructions, routines, or the beginning of a learning activity. Late arrivals can also interrupt the learning of classmates who are already engaged. Thank you for helping students start their day positively and ready to learn.
Healthy Choices at Lunch
As students gain greater independence, including the opportunity to go off campus at lunch, they are also learning to make responsible choices. We are noticing several students returning with oversized bags of chips, pop, and energy drinks. These choices can make it more difficult for students to sustain the energy, focus, and readiness needed for afternoon learning.
We encourage families to talk with their children about choosing lunches, snacks, and drinks that help fuel their growing bodies and brains. Developing healthy eating habits during the middle school years is an important part of supporting both success at school and a healthy lifestyle beyond school.
