Hello Tom Baines Families,

Welcome to 2024! We are surviving our first cold winter snap of the year. It is critical that you help support your children in being prepared for the cold temperatures by wearing appropriate winter clothing. If it is colder than -20 degrees with the wind chill we will stay indoors. If it is warmer than that then students are expected to go outside. Thank you for your help with this!

Wednesday, January 17 – Film Journal Festival @ 6:00 pm at the school

Thursday, January 18 – Leadership class field trip

Monday, January 22 – Drama field trip to the Plaza

Monday, January 22 – School Council meeting at 7:00 pm in the Learning Commons

Thursday, January 25 – PJ Day

Report Cards – teachers are busy writing report cards. They are available to parents on January 30 online only. Please make sure you can access your MyCBEAccount as that is where report cards will be found.

Traffic Safety – please remember that the drop off and pick up route in front of our school is one way only. Parents should not be parking in disabled spots or in front of our garbage bins. And parents should never enter the staff parking lot, this is for staff only.

Absences – thank you for communicating student absences with us. It helps us greatly if you send an email to tombaines@cbe.ab.ca to report an absence instead of calling. We also continue to struggle with students arriving late in the mornings. Please do your best to have your child arrive to school between 8:30 – 8:40 am.

School Council – our next meeting is January 22 at 7:00 pm in our Learning Commons. Please plan to attend as the focus of this meeting will be on our school goals as outlined in our School Development Plan. If you would like to attend virtually, please Click here to join the meeting

2024 – 2025 School Year – believe it or not we are starting to plan the next school year. The board has released the calendar and it can be found on the cbe website. The first day of school will be August 29. There are regular changes with transportation as well and next year we will have a small change with our hours. We will start at 8:50 am and still end at 3:30 pm. Please read the section below from CBE Transportation.

The CBE and Calgary Transit work collaboratively to plan for the transportation of students when schools are assigned to municipal transit as their mode of transportation.  

 

For the next school year, Calgary Transit requires a minor bell time adjustment to support school express routes continuing for our school. Starting in the 2024-25 school year, our morning bell will change from 8:45 a.m. to 8:50 a.m.

 

An updated schedule will be posted on the school website by May 2024
