School Update: November 17, 2023

Hello Tom Baines Families,

We hope all students and families enjoyed the short Fall break. We were excited to welcome the students back on Wednesday. You may have heard that we had some minor plumbing issues in the school yesterday but they were resolved and all of our washrooms are in working order. We also welcomed our Grade 8 students back from band camp today and are glad they had a great time full of learning.

Please read below for important upcoming events and information.

Conferences – reminder that conference booking began today at 7:00 am and closes on Thursday at 3:00 pm. You register online using your MyCBEAccount.

Tutoring – Sir Winston Churchill students are offering online tutoring for Tom Baines students in all subjects. This has been very popular and they will now offer in-person tutoring in our Learning Commons on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 – 4:15 pm. Students can just drop in as long as they’ve arranged transportation home with their families.

November 9 PD – on November 9 our staff gathered for professional learning around the CBE Indigenous Education Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework. Together we focused on our Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation in learning more about how to support students who self-identify as Indigenous as well as incorporating the framework into our teaching. It was a successful day and we are exited to continue this important work.

Once again, thank you all for your continued support to our school community. Tom Baines is a great place to be.
