School Update: September 15, 2023

Dear Tom Baines Families,

Thank you for all of your support with the start up of our school year. It has been quite smooth and successful. Organizing 840 students and families is never easy but we appreciate your patience and support. Students are now in full swing and working on the curriculum. We have amazing students, staff and parents at this school and are so proud to be a part of this community.

We had a successful Terry Fox run today. Thank you to all those who planned the day, participated in the run and made donations.

How Do I Volunteer?

At Tom Baines School we are always grateful for volunteers.  At the CBE, volunteers are required to fill out an Annual Volunteer Registration form, and have a valid Police Security Clearance including a Vulnerable Sector Check.  This is applicable to all adults 18 years & older, no matter their occupation or place of employment.

If you are interested in volunteering at Tom Baines School this year, please fill out the Annual Volunteer Registration form and turn it in to the school office.  If you do not have a current Police Clearance please come in to the school office with valid identification and our staff will assist you with that process.

Calgary Police Clearances are valid for five years from date of issue.  Applicants must have lived in Canada for at least one year and be a resident of Calgary in order to use the ePIC system.  Changes to the Calgary Police Service (CPS) ePIC system in June 2023 now require volunteers to cover the costs of their own Police Information Check ($21.25 total)

Yearbooks - School yearbooks are a wonderful keepsake at the end of the school year for students.  This year the yearbook committee is pleased to introduce a direct link and payment system with the yearbook supplier, Jostens.  Instead of going through the middle man (Tom Baines School), parents will be able to set up their own account with Jostens and order a yearbook. If your student wants a yearbook this year, you will get the best deal by ordering October 27th.  The price goes up after that date.

Fees – we have had a few problems with our online school fees so we are asking parents to not pay fees if possible until October. We will send out further communication when these are ready to be paid. Thank you for your understanding.

Student Absences – if your child is going to be away for any reasons, we ask you to email the school at tombaines@cbe.ab.ca to let us know. Please include the name of the child, the classroom and the reason for absence.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and great few weeks ahead.
